Planetary Imprinting.

Where Astrology comes into it!?

Firstly let me say I am certainly NO astrologer!! A lot of people come into the Human Design System from an Astrology background. I am not one of those! I basically knew my sun sign and that was it when I began learning Human Design.

What we must recognize is that the Ancient wisdom of Astrology was here WAY WAY before this system. It’s embedded into the system but it’s wisdom, in my opinion, is FAR FAR superior to the Human Design system. The benefit of understanding the planetary imprints in your design is that it brings you more information and nuance to your chart. Now that can be a good thing AND a bad thing! If you are deep down the rabbit hole and just consuming bucket loads of information without actually experimenting with your design, this section will only bring you more of that.. information to consume. It is nice to contemplate the finer details in our charts but as always, an embodied experiment is always going to be more powerful in your growth, evolution and transformation. Strategy and authority and true alignment are the only tools you really need. And you may not resonate with some of the planetary activation’s or really even consciously be able to understand them until a surrendering to your strategy and authority occurs.

For this section you will need your Human Design chart. You can go into the deeper layers with an Astrological Natal chart. In the Genetic matrix software you may be able to pull up an Astro HD chart. You can also use a combination of your free HD chart and a free Astro natal chart found on the web.

What I suggest for this section is to;

  1. First understand what the planet represents.

  2. Consider the gate and line.

  3. (if and only if you are ready to consume more) Look at the Zodiac energy that flavours that gate and planet.

  4. Consider the Astrological House this aspect of your chart resides in to discover a more nuanced are of your life or human experience that the planet has imprinted you with at birth.

The Zodiac Signs.

So we all know our ‘star sign’ and probably remember flicking through the Sunday newspaper to find the Horoscope section that had that one paragraph about what the week ahead would be like! Oh those where the days!

The Zodiac with Human Design is not discussed a lot at all in source material (trust me, I’ve scoured 1000’s of hours). I think perhaps to keep it palatable and simple Ra really took the Astrology aspect to the planets, gates and line level and not a lot further. However, there are a LOT of Ra’s original students that come from a background in Astrology so many of them have spoken to the zodiac and the houses in relation to the gate activation.

This section you will need your Natal Chart. What you are looking for is the Zodiac sign that the planet was in at the time of your birth.

The Signs describe energetic qualities or traits that you posses. You can contemplate this in conjunction with the planet and gate activation’s you have in your design.

The Elements of the Zodiac Signs

Each of the zodiac signs is ruled by an element: fire, earth, air, or water. Each of the elements is characterized by different strengths and tendencies. But how each star sign is affected by its element is unique to that sign.

Water signs are seen as shy, reserved, and sensitive, intuitive and in-tune with their feelings, nurturing towards the ones they love but need to be careful they're not overly giving with anyone who might take advantage of this quality. The water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

Fire signs, meanwhile, are known for passion, creativity, competitiveness, and inspiration. fire signs tend to act on instinct. The fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

Earth signs are considered conservative, realistic, and "down-to-earth." Patience is what gets them ahead in life. Earth signs tend to be more practical and tactile. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.

Air signs are thought of as rational, social, curious, and intellectual, naturally friendly, communicative, and analytical. Air signs are focus on the mind and the ethers. The air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

The Qualities of the Zodiac Signs

The Quality reveals another nature of the energy.

Cardinal energy tends to be a little controlling, as it likes to initiate.

Fixed energy tends to be more dominating and determined, seeing things through to the end.

Mutable energy is more flexible and adaptable, less rigid and able to go with the flow.

The HOUSES.

Different areas of life slot into different houses. Each house is like an arena of the human existence that you will have some mission to complete in. beginning from the self, and expanding outward into society and beyond. At the moment you were born, the planets were all in specific gates on specific lines in a specific zodiac sign located in a specific house.

Surely by now you can appreciate just how unique you are! two people may have gate 9 in their chart and yes they both may have it on line 3. But what is the likelihood they both have it in the same sign and house as well… pretty slim I would say!

So the Houses gives the last clue as to where this energy is going to show up in your life or what life arena you can expect the gates energy to be the strongest in.

  • The first house begins the zodiac, and covers the all “firsts”: first impressions, the self and appearance, leadership, new initiatives, fresh starts and beginnings. The sign on the cusp, or starting edge, of this house, is referred to as your rising sign or ascendant. (Ruled by Aries)

  • The second house covers all matters related to your immediate material and physical environment. Money , resources, possessions, finances, livelihood, fortune, security, self worth and self esteem. (Ruled by Taurus)

  • The third house rules all forms of communication—talking, thinking, gadgets and devices The third house also covers siblings, neighbourhoods, local travel and short journey’s, libraries, schools, teachers and community affairs. (Ruled by Gemini)

  • The fourth house sits at the very bottom of the zodiac wheel, and thus, rules the “foundation” of all things. This includes your home, privacy, your basic security, your parents (particularly your mother), children, your own mothering abilities, nurturing, land and ancestry (Ruled by Cancer)

  • The fifth house governs self-expression, drama, creativity, colour, attention, romance, sex, pleasure, children, fun, play and good times. (Ruled by Leo)

  • The sixth house is the domain of health and service. It rules schedules, organization, routines, fitness, diet and exercise, natural and healthy living, helpfulness and being of service to others. (Ruled by Virgo)

  • The seventh house is the sector of relationships and other people. It governs all partnerships, both business and personal, and relationship-associated matters, like contracts, marriage, and business deals. (Ruled by Libra)

  • The eighth house is a mysterious sector that rules birth, death, sex, intimacy, transformation, mysteries, merged energies, and bonding at the deepest level. The eighth house also rules debts, taxes and loans. (Ruled by Scorpio)

  • The ninth house covers the higher mind, god, religion, faith, expansion, international and long-distance travel, foreign languages, inspiration, optimism, publishing, broadcasting, universities and higher education, luck, risk, adventure, philosophy, morals and ethics. (Ruled by Sagittarius)

  • The tenth house governs career, reputation, glory, success, public image, fame, honours, achievements, greatest potential, awards, boundaries, rules, discipline, authority, fathers and fatherhood. (Ruled by Capricorn)

  • The eleventh house rules teams, friendships, groups, society, collective purpose, contribution, rebellion, and humanitarian causes. It also rules originality, eccentricity, sudden events, surprises, invention. (Ruled by Aquarius)

  • This house covers the final stages of a project, tying up loose ends, completions, the afterlife, old age, and surrender, the psyche, dreams, dimensions, visions, psychology, mental health, secrets, and the subconscious mind. (Ruled by Pisces)
